CAILabs’ AROONA goes global with Magellan

Rennes, 16th March 2017. CAILabs and Magellan have agreed a global cooperation which will allow CAILabs’ award winning AROONA Optical LAN product range to now be installed and supported in up to 145 countries and almost 400 cities worldwide.

For CAILabs, there are many benefits in a collaboration with a global IT support service company, which logically completes its globalization strategy. CAILabs is currently expanding the commercialization of the Aroona solution to global markets, and is in need of a partner to provide installation and maintenance services worldwide. By choosing a single global provider, CAILabs can maintain a controlled and consistent installation and maintenance service, in par with the company’s value to its customers.

Magellan sees the AROONA product range as very innovative technology, which naturally compliments the other emerging optical fibre based technologies they already support globally such as Tellabs.

AROONA is a highly innovative solution for organizations with existing multi-mode fibre optic network infrastructure, who wish to migrate to higher bandwidth networks, such as Passive Optical LAN (POL), or 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) – but wish to do so without the expense of having to replace their multi-mode fibre with single-mode fibre.

For many years, multi-mode fibres offered the best cost-to-performance ratio for premises backbones, and these fibres make up the vast majority of fibres currently deployed in LANs. However, the ever-increasing bandwidth demands in enterprise networks are pushing the limitations in distance and bandwidth of multi-mode fibres, particularly with the older OM1 and OM 2 fibre types.

OM1 type multi-mode fibre (typically 62.5/125um fibre) can only support 10 GbE for just 40m and OM2 type multi-mode fibre (typically 50/125um fibre) for 80m.

Single-mode fibre does not suffer from such bandwidth limitations (69 Tbps per fibre core). But depending upon the structure of the premises or campus involved, and the complexity of the cabling routes, replacing the multi-mode with single-mode may be a very costly and time-consuming exercise.

CAILabs’ Aroona series offers a wide range of solutions to upgrade a multi-mode fibre network infrastructure. It provides an easy-to-deploy and cost-effective way to dramatically increase the fibre capacity to the same level as single-mode fibres, without the hassle of deploying a new fibre.

CAILabs’ technology shapes the optical signal sent into the multi-mode fibre, overcoming its bandwidth limit. Simply installed at the fibre’s end, Aroona enables enterprises to meet today’s and tomorrow’s bandwidth needs with their existing fibre network.

The products in the Aroona series tackle multi-mode fibre capacity upgrade in various types of networks.

For conventional Ethernet LAN, point-to-point links and star topologies can be upgraded to several 10 Gb/s transmission channels. Aroona offers the capacity required for the latest and most bandwidth-consuming enterprise applications without overhauls of new cabling infrastructure, saving the expanse and the complexity of a fibre lay-out.

For Passive Optical LAN (POL), which is initially designed for single-mode fibres, Aroona enables to renovate an existing LAN to POL architecture while keeping the existing backbone multi-mode fibres. Fibre-to-the-desk becomes affordable for a LAN renovation project, facilitating the adoption of the innovative, green and economical POL solution for existing networks.

“The track record of Magellan in innovative IT technology and its close collaboration with Passive Optical LAN providers makes the cooperation between CAILabs and Magellan a natural and fruitful choice,” says Jean-François Morizur, CEO of CAILabs.

About CAILabs

CAILabs is a leading French manufacturer of innovative solutions to increase the capacity of optical fibres. CAILabs develop and manufacture a large range of light shaping components based on the patented, efficient and flexible technology of Multi-Plane Light Conversion.

CAILabs’ solutions support the ever-increasing demand in bandwidth in today’s and tomorrow’s fibre networks.

The Aroona solution for renovating the LAN has won numerous innovation awards including: the prestigious Huawei Digital-in-Pulse award, the APOLAN member innovation award, and the Lightwave Innovation reviews award.

CAILabs’ technology also supports major telecommunication vendors and operators, such as KDDI, Nokia, NEC or NTT, in their development of next generation optical networks. The world record in fibre capacity, achieved by KDDI in 2015, was realized with the help of CAILabs’ light shaping technology.
